Tooth Extractions & Wisdom Teeth in Ottawa
At Ottawa Downtown Dentist, our dentist performs tooth extractions and wisdom teeth removal when a tooth cannot be saved or is causing issues for your oral health.
What is a Tooth Extraction?
When a tooth is extracted, it is removed it from its socket in the bone. At Ottawa Downtown Dentist, our dentist performs instructions only when less invasive options would prove ineffective, or if keeping the tooth would put your oral health at risk.
Teeth are typically pulled for a few reasons, including excessive tooth damage and problematic wisdom teeth. They are also sometimes extracted to prepare for other dental procedures.
Wisdom Tooth Removal
The last set of molars to erupt in the back corners of a normal adult mouth are wisdom teeth. This usually happens in patients who are between 17 and 25 years of age.
This third set of teeth is not always functional, and may crowd out other teeth as they grow. They can also create problems for oral hygiene. In these cases, your dentist may recommend having them removed.
Repairing Excessive Damage
Normally, your dentist will work to save a tooth whenever possible. However, there are some cases, such as gum disease, excessive decay or injury in which extraction may be required.
Do you have a damaged tooth that needs to be extracted? Your dentist will explain tooth replacement options. These may include dental crowns, dental bridges and dentures.
