Dental Technology, Ottawa Dentist

Technologies at Our Dental Clinic

We leverage technology to help us plan treatments and to help your dental appointments run smoothly. Because we're able to display digital scans and x-rays on monitors in our treatment rooms, we can show you any issues in your mouth and explain your treatment plan.

At Ottawa Downtown Dentist, the goal is to provide patients with efficient dental care, and make sure they are fully informed regarding their oral health. Dental technology helps us accomplish this mission.

X-Rays

Digital X-Rays

Instead of traditional photographic x-ray film, digital x-rays use digital sensors to produce extremely detailed computer images of your teeth and gums, in addition to other oral structures and conditions. This enables your dentist to inspect any parts of the mouth that are not visible to the naked eye.

Panoramic X-Rays

With panoramic x-rays, we can create a single flat image of your entire mouth. This image represents your teeth, temporomandibular joints (TMJ), nasal and sinus structures and upper and lower jaws. Panoramic x-rays are typically used to help plan treatments for extractions, braces, implants and dentures.

CEREC Same-Day Restorations

CEREC® (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics) is the world's first system which allows for the fabrication and placement of ceramic dental restorations in one appointment.

The dentist at Ottawa Downtown Dentist can place dental crowns, inlays and onlays in a single appointment.

Though most restorative dental methods require one visit to the dentist, with this technology we're able to condense the process. No more multiple appointments for anesthesia, tooth preparation, time-consuming impressions and finally the required restoration.

With CEREC, there are fewer injections, less drilling and less time out from your busy schedule for appointments. No impressions or temporaries are needed - just tooth-coloured, metal-free ceramic restorations in a single visit. Plus, this technology allows you to retain more healthy tooth structure - a goal we strive to achieve every day.

Dental Lasers

With hard tissue dental lasers, tooth decay can be removed while protecting your remaining healthy enamel. We always strive to save as much of the natural tooth structure as possible, and hard lasers help us do this. Using this technology, we're able to help patients get the dental care they need while avoiding stress due to vibrations from a conventional drill.

iTero Intraoral Scanner

Using the iTero® intraoral scanner, highly accurate, 3D impressions of your bite can be taken. With this technology we can create Invisalign clear aligners, dental impressions and digital replicas of the hard and soft tissues of your mouth. This is an ideal alternative to traditional dental impressions, which can be messy and time-consuming.

Oral Cancer Screening Device

The VELscope® oral cancer screening device helps the dentist to identify abnormalities and diseases in your mouth, including cancerous and pre-cancerous lesions. Using fluorescence visualization technology, this test can be performed in your dentist's office during routine exams, under normal lighting conditions in about two minutes.

Cone Beam Cat Scan

This special type of x-ray machine generates 3D images of dental structures, nerve paths and soft tissues and bone in the craniofacial region in a single scan. Images obtained with the Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scan allow for more precise treatment planning, including examining your airway for snoring and sleep apnea treatment.
