What is Dental Bonding?

During a dental bonding procedure, your dentist literally bonds tooth-coloured composite resin to your tooth to match your surrounding natural teeth.

This non-invasive cosmetic procedure is typically used to repair chipped or discoloured teeth, but it is also often utilized to make teeth appear longer, close gaps between teeth, or to change their colour or shape, making them appear more symmetrical.

The Bonding Procedure

Usually, dental bonding requires a single visit to your dentist's office and can typically be completed in 30 to 60 minutes per tooth.

To prepare your teeth for bonding, an etching solution will be applied to the tooth's surface. Your dentist will then cover your teeth with a composite resin that matches their natural shade.

Using a high-intensity curing light, the composite resin is then molded into shape and hardened in place.

How Dental Bonding Can Help

Dental bonding can help to address minor cosmetic dental issues, such as a discoloured, gapped or cracked tooth.

Following the procedure, your teeth will look natural, especially if the tooth being filled is visible when you smile.

The composite resin will also strengthen your teeth so you can enjoy meals without having to worry about applying too much pressure to your tooth and fracturing it or cracking it again.
